Light Therapy – Treatments for Seasonal Affective Disorder

The winter months bring challenges other than the cold. This time of year has less sunny days and can cause physiological imbalances within the body. This can cause a depression called: Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Custom light boxes can give you the additional light you need to get your physiology back in balance.

Custom light boxes can be conveniently wall mounted or placed on a desk top. They can provide the right amount of additional light while you work, study or just relax. It is recommended that you use light boxes with natural white light early in the morning.  This will also help you wake up during the dark winter mornings.

In the evening you should dim the light box so it won’t interfere with your ability to fall asleep later. The use of blue shades of light can also help put you sleep because it twilight colour. Red light box light is recommended for mornings because it imitates the sunrise at dawn.

Custom light boxes are lit up using LED light bulbs. These light bulbs light up brightly and won’t fade or dim for over ten years. Light boxes require low electricity in order to illuminate their display. This makes it convenient to turn them on for several hours.

SAD can be treated effectively with custom light boxes. Keep in mind that SAD is a seasonal disorder limited to the winter months that have fewer sunny days. For the summer months custom light boxes can be stored.

The power of brightening a rental unit

Did you know that the use of custom light boxes can help obtain tenants? Real estate and rental agents know tricks to make an unit more desirable. Having the unit properly illuminated with the use of light boxes can also make the unit attractive.

Custom light boxes come in  three main  types: snap frame with acrylic display, fabric screens with minimal frame and edge-lit acrylic display screens. Each has its own advantages and optimal wet up location.

There are different screen display options for light boxes. For rental units, light boxes with blank displays and natural white light can be used to illuminate dark  corners. This comes in handy when there is limited lighting sources. It also helps the unit become more welcoming to potential tenants.

In winter months, light boxes can use warm colour tones to produce a warm atmosphere. Cool colors and dark corners tend to do the opposite and don’t make the unit as attractive. Basement units benefit from custom light boxes that use warm bright colours.

The other use of light boxes is to display specific images. For rental units, custom light boxes usually display items that make us think of  home. This includes food items such as cookies or pets. Other displays show art work to improve the esthetics of the rental unit.
